How to download TikTok videos on phone and PC

TikTok has its own save button, but it does not always show up. Some creators turn it off. Some countries do not have it. And when it does work, you often get a file you cannot easily move or share in the size you want.

This guide shows how to download TikTok videos on any phone or computer with a free TikTok video downloader. No app, no login.

First, try TikTok's own button

Open the video, tap the Share arrow on the right side, and look for Save video. If you see it, you can use it. If you do not see it, the creator has turned downloads off, or it is not offered where you live. That is when a downloader helps, but remember the creator's choice when you decide what to do with the file.

Step 1: Copy the TikTok link

In the app: tap Share, then Copy link.

On a computer: open the video on tiktok.com and copy the address from the top of the browser. It looks like tiktok.com/@name/video/1234567890. Short links like vm.tiktok.com/... work too.

Step 2: Paste the link

Downloading on Android, step by step

1. In TikTok, tap Share and Copy link.
2. Switch to Chrome and open the downloader.
3. Long-press the box, tap Paste.
4. Tap the globe, then Download Now.
5. Pull down the notification bar. Tap the finished download to watch it.

Downloading on iPhone, step by step

1. In TikTok, tap Share and Copy link.
2. Open Safari and go to the downloader.
3. Paste the link and tap the globe.
4. Tap Download Now. If Safari asks, tap Download.
5. Tap the blue arrow in the address bar, open the video, and choose Save Video.

Downloading on a computer

On a PC or Mac it is even easier. Open TikTok in one tab and the downloader in another. Copy the address of the video, paste it in, tap the globe and download. The MP4 lands in Downloads. A computer is handy when you want to save several videos for a school project or for editing.

When a TikTok video will not download

1. The account is private. Only approved followers can see it, so the tool cannot reach it.
2. The video was removed. Check that it still plays in the app.
3. It is a photo post. Slideshows of pictures are not videos, so the video tool cannot save them as an MP4.
4. It is a live stream. Live videos cannot be saved while they are running.
5. The link is a profile link. Copy the link of the video itself.

Use downloaded TikToks fairly

A TikTok belongs to the person who made it. Saving one to watch later, or to show a friend, is one thing. Uploading it to your own account as if you made it is another. TikTok explains its rules in the TikTok Help Center. When you share, give credit to the creator.
