How to download videos from X (Twitter)

You scroll past a great video on X: a rocket launch, a cooking hack, a short news clip. You tap the three dots, look for "Download", and it is not there. For most people, X simply does not have a save button for videos.

A Twitter video downloader fills that gap. This guide shows how to download videos from X (the app many still call Twitter) on a phone or a computer, in a few simple steps.

Twitter or X: is it the same thing?

Yes. Twitter changed its name to X in 2023. The app and the website are the same, and old twitter.com links still open. Our tool accepts both x.com and twitter.com links.

What you can download from X

• Videos posted in public posts
• GIFs, which X actually stores as short MP4 videos
• Videos inside replies and quote posts, if the post is public

You cannot download videos from protected (private) accounts, or posts that were deleted.

Step 1: Copy the link to the post

On the X app: tap the share icon under the post (the arrow or the box with an arrow), then tap Copy link.

On a computer: click the post so it opens on its own page, then copy the address from the browser bar. It will look like x.com/name/status/1234567890.

Make sure you copy the link to the post itself, not the link to someone's profile.

Step 2: Paste it into the downloader

Open our Twitter video downloader. Paste the link into the box at the top of the page.

Step 3: Tap the globe

Tap the spinning globe. After a couple of seconds you will see the post text, a small picture and the video length.

Step 4: Choose a quality

X keeps each video in a few sizes. You will often see 1080p, 720p, 480p and smaller. Pick 720p for phones and 1080p for big screens, if it is there.

Step 5: Download the MP4

Tap Download Now. The video saves as an MP4 file.

• Android: look in the Download folder or your Gallery.
• iPhone: the file is in the Files app under Downloads. To add it to Photos, open it, tap share, then Save Video.
• Computer: check your Downloads folder.

How to download a Twitter GIF

A GIF on X looks like a moving picture, but X saves it as a small video without sound. Paste the post link the same way and you will get it as an MP4. MP4 is smaller and smoother than a real GIF file, and it plays everywhere. If you only want the sound of a video post, open the Audio Only tab and save it as MP3.

Why an X video will not download

1. The account is protected. Only approved followers can see those posts, so the tool cannot reach them.
2. The post has no video. Some links point to a text post that only quotes a video. Open the original post and copy that link instead.
3. The post was deleted or the account was suspended.
4. It is a live broadcast that is still running. Wait until it ends.
5. The video is marked as sensitive. We do not download content marked for adults only.

Respect the creator
