How to download Facebook videos in HD
You save a Facebook video, open it later, and it looks blurry. That happens a lot. Facebook keeps most videos in two sizes, SD and HD, and many tools give you the small one by default.
This guide shows how to download Facebook videos in HD on a phone or computer, and explains why HD is sometimes missing.
SD or HD: what is the difference?
| SD | HD | |
|---|---|---|
| Sharpness | Soft, a bit blurry on big screens | Clear and sharp |
| Usual size | Around 360p to 480p | 720p or 1080p |
| File size | Small | Two to four times bigger |
| Best for | Saving space on an old phone | Watching on a laptop or TV |
Step 1: Copy the right link
This is the step most people get wrong. You need the link to the video, not to the page or the group.
In the Facebook app: open the video, tap Share, then Copy link.
On a computer: click the time stamp under the post name (like "3h" or "June 4"), or click the video so it opens on its own. Then copy the address from the browser bar. Good links look like facebook.com/watch?v=..., facebook.com/.../videos/... or fb.watch/....
Step 2: Paste it into the downloader
Open our Facebook video downloader and paste the link.
Step 3: Tap the globe
Tap the spinning globe. You will see the video picture and a list of the qualities Facebook has for that video.
Step 4: Pick HD
Choose the highest number you see, like 720p or 1080p. If you only see one small option, the video was uploaded in SD, or Facebook has not made an HD copy yet.
Step 5: Download
Tap Download Now. On Android the file goes to Download. On iPhone it goes to the Files app. On a computer it goes to Downloads.
Why is there no HD option?
- The person uploaded it in low quality. A tool cannot make a video sharper than the original.
- The video is very new. Facebook sometimes makes the HD copy a little after upload. Try again later.
- It was shared from an old phone or sent through a messaging app first, which shrinks videos.
Reels are a little different
Facebook Reels are short, tall videos. Their links look like facebook.com/reel/.... They work best with our Facebook Reels downloader, which is made for that format.
Videos that cannot be downloaded
- Videos in private groups you are not part of.
- Videos shared with "Friends" only. The tool is not your friend on Facebook, so it cannot see them.
- Live videos that are still running.
- Videos that were deleted.
If you can only see a video because you are logged in, a public downloader will not reach it. That is a privacy protection, and it is a good one.
Tips for better results
- Use Wi-Fi for HD files. They can be large.
- If a link from the app fails, open the same video on facebook.com and copy the browser address instead.
- For only the sound, like a speech or a lesson, choose the Audio Only tab to save an MP3.

Respect the owner
Download only what you have a right to keep: your own videos, public videos the owner allows you to save, or videos with a free license. Facebook's Help Center explains its rules on copyright and sharing.
Quick summary
Copy the link to the video itself, paste it into our Facebook video downloader, tap the globe, pick 720p or 1080p and tap Download Now. If HD is missing, the original was uploaded in low quality or is still being processed.
